West Indies showcased one of the most dominant batting performances in the T20 World Cup 2026 as they thrashed Zimbabwe by 107 runs in the 44th match of the Super Eights (Group 1) at Mumbai on February 23, 2026.

Batting first, the West Indies cricket team came out with aggressive intentions and put the Zimbabwean bowlers under immediate pressure. Even after losing two wickets in the powerplay, the West Indies team quickly reached 55 runs in the first six overs. Shimron Hetmyer set the tone with his fearless stroke play, reaching his half-century in just 19 balls, hitting four fours and five sixes.

Hetmyer received excellent support from Rovman Powell as the duo formed quick partnerships that completely turned the tables. West Indies reached 100 runs in just 9.1 overs and reached 150 in the 13th over, with extras also contributing heavily to the total. Powell scored his half-century in 29 balls, while Hetmyer continued his maverick display, standing tall at 79 at the end of the 14-over drinks break. The run rate only accelerated as West Indies broke past 200 in 16.5 overs and eventually reached a massive 254/6 at the end of 20 overs.

While chasing a daunting target of 255, the Zimbabwe cricket team never managed to get stability. Losing wickets in the powerplay left them struggling at 47/3, and despite a brief fight from Dion Myers, the required run rate kept escalating. West Indies’ bowlers showed discipline, triggering a collapse that left Zimbabwe at 102/8 at the 13.3-over drinks break. Zimbabwe was eventually bowled out for 147 in 17.4 overs.

The resounding victory greatly improved West Indies’ net run rate and helped them move up in Group 1. Shimron Hetmyer, who stunned everyone with his 85 off 34 balls and also took two catches in the field, was awarded the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance.
