South Africa showcased a dominating batting performance to thrash West Indies by nine wickets in the 47th match of the T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eights (Group 1) at Ahmedabad on February 26, 2026.

Batting first, the West Indies cricket team had a shaky start despite a productive powerplay. They reached 52 runs in the first six overs but lost four wickets in the process, putting pressure on themselves. The middle order failed to gain momentum, and by the 14th over, West Indies were reduced to 109/7.

Just when it seemed that the West Indies innings was losing steam, a fighting knock by Romario Shepherd turned the tide. He added a crucial 50-run partnership for the eighth wicket with Jason Holder, regaining some momentum for the team. Shepherd reached his half-century in 37 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes to boost the score. Even though a late review did not go in his favor, his aggressive batting helped West Indies reach a respectable 176/8 in 20 overs.

In reaction, the South Africa cricket team made a statement right from the first over. Aiden Markram and Quinton de Kock went hammer and tongs against the bowling attack, reaching 69 without loss in the powerplay. Markram was in top form, reaching his fifty in just 27 deliveries with some beautiful strokes all around the ground.

South Africa reached 100 in under nine overs and never gave West Indies a chance to get a hold of the chase. Ryan Rickelton, who came in after de Kock’s dismissal, provided some excellent support, and the duo made it look easy to tick off the scoreboard. Aiden Markram remained unbeaten on an incredible 82 off 46 deliveries as South Africa romped to 177/1 in just 16.1 overs, winning the match with 23 balls to spare.

The dominating win further increased South Africa’s hold on Group 1. Aiden Markram was awarded the Player of the Match for his match-winning unbeaten 82 in a clinical run chase.
