Pretoria Capitals Innings: Brevis Shines in Lone Battle
After being asked to bat first, Pretoria Capitals started off aggressively by scoring 49 for two wickets during power play. Dewald Brevis stabilized the innings, taking quick control after the third wicket fell at 50. Brevis used his explosive ability by scoring a half-century off just 26 balls with six fours and three sixes.
The Capitals reached 100 runs in 12.3 overs mostly due to fearless stroke play. During lunch, i.e., strategic timeout, The Capitals had reached 123 for 4 in 15 overs with Brevis looking set on 85. Brevis eventually scored an amazing century off 53 balls, including eight fours and seven sixes.
Despite Brevis' heroics, the wickets kept falling at regular intervals at the other end. A successful review for Sunrisers in the 19th over saw Keshav Maharaj dismissed to further peg the Capitals' finish back. Pretoria eventually posted 158/7 in their 20 overs, competitive but with very little margin for error.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape Innings: Calm Chase Seals the Title
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape lost two wickets inside the powerplay and had managed 39 runs in the first six overs. The pressure continued to build, reaching 48/4 at the strategic timeout, leaving the chase delicately poised.
But then, a fine counter-attacking partnership between Matthew Breetzke and Tristan Stubbs turned the match on its head. The duo added 50 runs for the fifth wicket in 40 balls and later extended the stand to a match-winning 100 off just 63 deliveries. Breetzke anchored the chase with a measured 50 off 44 balls, as Stubbs played the aggressor to reach his half-century in 37 balls. The duo's partnership carried Sunrisers beyond the 150-run mark in the final over, valuable extras also aiding the chase.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape closed at 164 for 4 off 18.6 overs with four balls to go, winning SA20 and celebrations by their supporters at Cape Town.
