In a run-fest at Mumbai, Royal Challengers Bengaluru delivered a dominant performance to defeat Mumbai Indians by 18 runs in the 20th match of IPL 2026.
Batting first, RCB came out with aggressive intent and completely dominated the powerplay. Openers Phil Salt and Virat Kohli put on a sensational 100-run opening partnership in just 52 balls, laying the foundation for a massive total.
Salt was in destructive form, smashing a quickfire 78 off just 36 balls, including boundaries all around the park. Kohli complemented him well, scoring a steady half-century off 37 balls and anchoring the innings.
After the strong start, Rajat Patidar took charge in the middle overs with an explosive knock. He raced to a stunning 50 off just 17 balls, accelerating RCB’s scoring rate and putting Mumbai Indians under immense pressure.
Despite a few reviews and interruptions, RCB maintained their momentum throughout. A late cameo from Tim David added valuable runs, pushing the total to a massive 240/4 in 20 overs.
Chasing 241, Mumbai Indians started strongly, reaching 62 without loss in the powerplay. Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma gave the team a solid start with a 50-run partnership.
However, Mumbai suffered a setback when Rohit Sharma had to retire hurt, disrupting their momentum. Despite efforts from Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, the required run rate kept climbing.
In the later stages, Sherfane Rutherford played a brilliant counter-attacking innings, smashing 50 off just 26 balls and keeping Mumbai’s hopes alive. But the target proved too steep.
Mumbai Indians finished at 222/5 in 20 overs, falling 18 runs short of the target.
