Bangladesh vs Pakistan 1st Test ended in a memorable victory for Bangladesh as the hosts defeated Pakistan by 104 runs on Day 5 in Dhaka. A superb all-round batting display led by Najmul Hossain Shanto proved decisive in a hard-fought Test match.
Bangladesh resumed the final day looking to stretch their lead and put Pakistan under pressure. Shanto once again played a composed innings and carried the batting responsibility after wickets fell regularly around him. Pakistan managed to remove Litton Das following a successful review, but Shanto continued to frustrate the visitors with calm and controlled batting.
Bangladesh crossed the 200-run mark before Shanto survived another review challenge from Pakistan. The left-hander looked set for another century but eventually departed after an excellent knock of 87, helping Bangladesh build a challenging target for the visitors.
The hosts declared at 240/9 in 70.3 overs, setting Pakistan a target of 268 runs to win the Test. Pakistan’s chase, however, got off to a poor start as Bangladesh struck early before lunch.
Young batter Abdullah Fazal tried to keep Pakistan in the contest with an aggressive counterattack. He completed a well-made half-century off 72 balls, smashing 10 boundaries and showing positive intent against the Bangladesh bowlers.
Despite Abdullah’s resistance, Bangladesh kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan attempted to rebuild the innings, but Bangladesh maintained pressure through disciplined bowling and sharp fielding.
The final session saw multiple reviews as both teams battled intensely for control. Bangladesh successfully overturned key decisions, including crucial dismissals involving Abdullah Fazal and later Noman Ali, while Pakistan also managed to survive a few close calls through reviews.
Pakistan eventually collapsed for 163 in their second innings, falling well short of the target. Bangladesh secured a convincing 104-run victory and celebrated a deserved home Test triumph.
Najmul Hossain Shanto was named Player of the Match for his outstanding contributions of 101 and 87 across both innings, playing a central role in Bangladesh’s impressive victory over Pakistan.
