On February 14, in Colombo, Ireland lived up to their pre-tournament billing with a commanding display, outclassing Oman by 96 runs in the 22nd match of the T20 World Cup 2026 Group B encounter. Lorcan Tucker’s blistering unbeaten 94 guided the team to one of the highest scores in the tournament.
Ireland Rise After Early Wobble to Post 235
Choosing to bat first, Ireland had a rough start to their innings, losing three wickets in the power play, struggling to make it to 47 in the first six overs. There was a bit of drama with the DRS, where Ireland managed to overturn a few calls but could not capitalize on them.
Tucker, however, took charge, striking a sharp counter-attack with good support from George Dockrell and, most importantly, Gareth Delany. Delany smashed a quick-fire half-century off 28 balls, hitting four sixes and many boundaries to the boundary rope.
Ireland reached the 150-run mark in 16.1 overs and then accelerated to finish off the innings at 235/5 in 20 overs. Lorcan Tucker stayed unbeaten on 94 off 51, just one run short of a hundred.
Oman Start Encouraging but Fall Short
In response to 236, Oman started off well, reaching 63/2 in powerplay. Aamir Kaleem scored a fluent 50 off 28 to keep Oman in the game for some time.
However, the Irish bowlers hit back in the middle overs, picking wickets at regular intervals. After reaching 113/6 in 13.4 overs, Oman's chase fell apart, and they were bowled out for 139 in 18 overs, handing a comfortable 96-run win to Ireland.
Lorcan Tucker Wins Player of the Match
Tucker's explosive 94* off 51 was the game-defining innings, with six fours and one six, winning him the Player of the Match.
