Bangladesh vs Pakistan 1st Test began with Bangladesh producing a commanding batting performance on Day 1, ending the day strongly at 301/4 after 85 overs. A brilliant century from Najmul Hossain Shanto and a composed knock from Mominul Haque helped the hosts take firm control against Pakistan in Dhaka.
Pakistan struck early in the morning session and reduced Bangladesh to 38/2 inside 13 overs. However, the recovery came quickly as Shanto and Mominul steadied the innings with patience and smart strokeplay. Bangladesh crossed the 50-run mark in 16.6 overs before the pair gradually shifted momentum in favor of the home side.
The duo built a magnificent third-wicket partnership that frustrated Pakistan’s bowling attack throughout the day. By lunch, Bangladesh had reached 101/2 with Mominul unbeaten on 31 and Shanto cruising on 39. After the break, Shanto accelerated beautifully and completed his half-century off just 71 balls, mixing elegant boundaries with confident attacking shots.
The partnership continued to grow as Bangladesh crossed 150 and then 200 runs. Mominul also reached a well-deserved half-century, bringing calmness and stability at one end while Shanto dominated the scoring. The left-handed batter eventually completed a superb century off 129 balls, smashing 12 fours and 2 sixes in a memorable innings.
Pakistan finally found relief shortly after the milestone when a successful review helped dismiss Shanto for a magnificent 100 at 201/3. Despite the breakthrough, Bangladesh remained firmly in control as veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim joined Mominul to continue the strong batting display.
Mominul looked set for a century of his own and survived a Pakistan review during the post-tea session. Bangladesh also successfully overturned an umpire’s decision later in the innings, showing how crucial reviews became throughout the day. The hosts crossed the 250 and 300-run marks comfortably while Pakistan struggled to maintain consistent pressure.
The second new ball was taken after 80 overs, and Pakistan finally managed to remove Mominul Haque after an excellent innings of 88. However, Bangladesh still finished the day in a dominant position at 301/4, with Mushfiqur Rahim unbeaten on 48 and Litton Das providing support at the other end.
Pakistan will now need early wickets on Day 2 to stop Bangladesh from posting a massive first-innings total, while the home side will aim to capitalize further on their strong foundation in Dhaka.
