Peshawar Zalmi delivered a commanding all-round performance to crush Islamabad United by 70 runs in the PSL Qualifier at Karachi, booking their place in the grand final. Led by a magnificent century from captain Babar Azam, Zalmi posted a massive 221/7 before bowling out United’s hopes in emphatic fashion.

Babar Azam Anchors Explosive Zalmi Innings

After being asked to bat, Zalmi openers came out firing in the powerplay, racing to 68 without loss in the first six overs. Mohammad Haris and Babar Azam stitched together a rapid 50-run opening stand in just 27 balls, putting Islamabad under immediate pressure.

Babar looked in sublime touch throughout the innings, timing the ball beautifully and punishing anything loose. He brought up his half-century in 38 balls and accelerated brilliantly in the death overs. The Zalmi skipper reached a stunning hundred off only 57 deliveries, smashing 12 fours and 4 sixes in a captain’s knock.

With support from Kusal Mendis (32) and useful late contributions, Zalmi crossed 200 in the 19th over before finishing on a formidable 221/7 in 20 overs.

United Collapse Under Pressure

Chasing a daunting 222, Islamabad United started aggressively and reached 64/1 in the powerplay. Devon Conway and Sameer Minhas gave their side early hope with a quickfire opening stand.

However, once wickets began to fall, the chase completely unraveled. United slipped to 126/7 by the 15th over after Zalmi’s bowlers applied relentless pressure and struck at regular intervals.

The middle order had no answers against disciplined bowling and rising required rate. Islamabad eventually limped to 151 in 18.4 overs, handing Zalmi a comprehensive 70-run victory.

Player of the Match

Babar Azam was deservedly named Player of the Match for his outstanding 103 off 59 balls and two sharp catches in the field.
