Pakistan showed a complete all-round display to thrash Australia by 90 runs, thanks to an incredible batting show by Salman Ali Agha, who was rightly awarded the Man of the Match award.
Pakistan Innings: Explosive Start, Strong Finish
Pakistan started the innings with a bang, scoring 72 runs in the first six overs, despite losing two wickets. The team reached 50 in just 4.1 overs, which indicated the clear aggression shown by the team from the very start.
The innings was led by Agha Salman, who took charge of the innings after the initial loss of wickets. A crucial second-wicket partnership was formed, during which 50 runs were scored in just 21 balls, with Salman contributing heavily to the partnership. Australia managed to get back into the game when Saim Ayub was given out after a successful review in the 5.5th over.
Salman, however, continued his onslaught and scored a rapid half-century in just 25 balls, hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes. At the time of the drinks break, Pakistan were cruising at 96/3 after 10 overs.
The momentum never wavered as Pakistan reached 100 in 10.3 overs and 150 in 15.4 overs. A steady partnership between Usman Khan and Shadab Khan further steadied the ship, with Usman scoring a composed 50 off 35 balls.
Pakistan ended strongly at 198/5 in 20 overs, with Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz contributing valuable late overs to set a tough target.
Australia Innings: Early Collapse Ends the Contest
Australia’s pursuit began on a nightmarish note as Pakistan’s bowlers tore through their top order. The visitors could muster only 48 runs in the powerplay, with three wickets falling in the process.
A string of DRS challenges did little to change the fortunes of Australia, with their key batsmen such as Josh Inglis, Matt Renshaw, and Xavier Bartlett falling prey to umpires’ decisions. By the drinks break, Australia were struggling at 71/5 in 10 overs, with Cameron Green being the lone warrior.
Despite reaching 100 in 14.3 overs, the required rate was simply too high. Pakistan’s bowlers continued to pick wickets at regular intervals, dismissing Australia for 108 in 15.4 overs.
